This was an excellent summary of John Kotter's recent epiphany regarding urgency. The false urgency is so prevalent in organizations today that there is little time to get anything REAL done! While there can be many causes, it is important initially that managers and executives understand the concept and begin to differentiate between true, results-driven urgency and 'chicken with without a head', hyper-activity. Great video.

[...] George Clooney in an HR role… who among us wouldn’t want to see the most debonair actor of our times take on some of the tasks we perform every day? The prospect is just too delicious — so I headed out to find a theater that was screening the new comedy-drama “Up in the Air,” currently in limited release from Paramount. [...]

It was so good to see SHRM represented at the Working Mother 100 Best Company conference. This event showcases companies that are working hard to create a culture of flex and having SHRM's information and involvement is extremely valuable. FlexPaths looks forward to continuing to support your effort in this area.

I am here in Buenos Aires to participate in the Board meeting of the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA), which is taking place concurrently with this Congresso. The photo shows the leadership of the Argentina HR Association, which is hosting us, at the opening. That sessions was followed by a presentation by video link with Dave Ulrich.

While I am here with my colleague Rosaura Barrera, SHRM manager of Global Relationships, we also met with the Chair of the HR Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, who is the HR Director for Latin America for Dow. He was excited to discuss ways we could cooperate and share knowledge and build a community with professionals in Argentina.

E-Verify, for all of its imperfections, is the best tool available today. Since none of the states are permitting their drivers license database to be accessed for E-Verify the system is not as effective as it might be for combatting identity fraud. The obvious solution would appear to get the states to provide access to the drivers license so that when an applicant applies for a job and presents a drivers license, the employer can access the photo from the state database and compare that to the photo on the drivers license that was presented by the employee.

Fix the problems, don't abandon the program. Let's keep in mind that it's purpose is to verify that someone is eligible to work, not to detect identity fraud.

Great post Jon! I have been following the #p2 effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.
